Tottenham are currently in talks with Bayer Leverkusen

Tottenham are close to signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Son Heung-min for an £18 million transfer fee.

Sky Deutschland are reporting that the South Korea international has already travelled to London for a medical, ahead of the proposed move.

Son was left out of the Leverkusen squad for their Champions League second leg play off tie with Lazio on Wednesday night, amid the uncertainty over his future.

The German club won the game 3-0 to progress to the group stages, having been 1-0 down from the first leg.

Tottenham seem to have given up their pursuit of West Brom striker Saido Berahino, after two seperate bids were turned down, and are now looking for alternatives.

Son is not an out and out striker, having plied his trade at Leverkusen predominantly as a wide player, but he could be an able replacement for Erik Lamela, who Spurs are looking to offload to Inter Milan.

He has 44 caps for South Korea and has scored 11 goals

Last week, Leverkusen adamantly said that Son would not be sold in this transfer window.

They said: “That is not currently our agenda. We are preparing for our most important game of the season.”
