The Dane has no future with the 2012/13 league champions

Reserve goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has been told by Manchester United that he can leave on a free transfer this summer.

The Danish shot stopper has slipped further down the pecking order at Old Trafford, after the arrival of Sergio Romero earlier last week.

Louis van Gaal is now considering placing Sam Johnstone above Lindegaard, after refusing to let the youngster return to Preston North End on loan.

Lindegaard did not get a minute of first team action last season, due to the sensational form of David de Gea, and the arrival of Victor Valdes.

Lindegaard’s last Premier League appearance was in April 2014

The 31 year old has made just 29 appearances in the whole of his career in Manchester, since joining from Norwegian club Aaelsund.

United number one ‘keeper de Gea has of course been the subject of intense speculation over a transfer to Real Madrid, but the Spaniard looks set to stay for perhaps one more season.

If however de Gea was to depart Old Trafford in this window, Ajax’s Jasper Cillesen would be the club’s main target.
