Lionel Messi hit out at Barcelona fans for taunting Philippe Coutinho during the 3-0 victory against Liverpool in the Champions League.
Despite the scoreline, the former Liverpool player had an awful day as he rarely contributed to the winning cause. The Brazilian who has been linked with a return to the Premier League was replaced by right back Nelson Semedo.
It hasn’t been easy for the playmaker since shifting to Spain and he often has been the subject of mocking and jeering from the supporters. The 26 year old was once again booed and whistled when he was taken off the pitch following an underwhelming display.
Barcelona boosted their chance of lifting another Champions League trophy as goals from Luis Suarez and Lionels Messi handed them a massive advantage in this two legged semifinal.
Messi said, “We’re at the defining stage of the season and we have to be more united than ever
“I said that at the start of the season. It’s not the time to criticise anyone.
“We have to support each other and stick together for the rest of the season. It is ugly to treat a player like that when they’re taken off.”
