According to Sergio Aguero, his Argentinian counterpart Lionel Messi is still the best player in the world.
The FC Barcelona star is currently sidelined with an injury and isn’t expected to return until 2014 and during his absense, Cristiano Ronaldo is in the form of his life for both Real Madrid and Portugal.
The last three seasons have been dominated by Messi, but this year, it is predicted that the award will go to either Ronaldo or Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery.
However, one day, Aguero is aiming to become one of the best players in the world.
‘Messi is a very important person to me,’ Aguero told BBC Match of the Day Magazine.
‘Lionel is the best footballer in the world, but to me we are friends first, always. We started playing together when we were just 17 years old.
‘He was always going to be the best, always. He’s the number one and maybe I can be number two. Not yet though, I’m doing OK but I have to keep training hard and playing well.’
