Manchester City midfielder leaving on a free transfer
Liverpool have reportedly agreed a contract with Manchester City midfielder James Milner which will see him join Brendan Rodgers’ side in June once his deal expires at the Etihad Stadium.
The England international has just a couple of months left on his contract and has no plans on renewing his current deal due to the lack of first-team football.
Despite featuring regularly this season for Manuel Pellegrini‘s side, Milner is concerned that next season will be different and his role could diminish back to a fringe player.
First-Team Football Wanted
The 29-year-0ld is desperate to be playing regular first-team football and has caught the eye of both Liverpool and Arsenal in recent months, with both managers keen on bringing him in on a free due to his versatility.
Milner can play anywhere across the midfielder and has also been deployed at right-back as well as a lone-striker this season.
With Steven Gerrard set to leave Anfield this Summer for LA Galaxy, Rodgers is in the market for a new midfield-man and according to reports, he has ensured Milner that he will be a first-team regular, something he couldn’t be promised at Arsenal or City.
Both sides have a wealth of midfield options and with that in mind, it’s believed Milner has chosen a move to Liverpool.
Anfield Source Confirms Deal
It was an Anfield source that confirmed it as a done deal but as of yet, nothing formal has come from either club.
