Centre-back will join Liverpool in summer

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal in principle for Schalke defender Joel Matip.

The centre-back has entered the final few months of his contract at the Bundesliga club, and because of the Bosman Rule, Liverpool have been able to offer him a contract ahead of next season.

According to reports, Matip has spoken to Anfield officials already and has agreed a deal in principle with the Premier League club, meaning he will join them as soon as his deal at Schalke expires.

Defensive Reinforcements

Liverpool have already recruited a new centre-back this window, with Steven Caulker coming in from Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan, and it looks like Jurgen Klopp is set to add another ahead of next season.

The 24-year-old is keen to leave Schalke and experience a new challenge, and it looks like the Cameroonian is set for a switch to Merseyside.
