Liverpool boss speaks of Milner admiration

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed his admiration for Manchester City’s James Milner, but hasn’t commented on whether he wants to sign the midfielder.

With talisman skipper Steven Gerrard leaving Anfield at the end of this season, Liverpool will be looking to strengthen their midfield area in the summer, and Milner has been mooted as a possible target.

With his City contract also expiring this summer, he’d be available to Rodgers on a free or in a cheap deal this January should the 29 year-old not agree a new contract at the Etihad.

Rodgers speaking at a press conference said:

”James is a wonderful player. He’s been an outstanding footballer since the time I saw him at Leeds as a young player.

”Players get linked all the time with this club, whether it’s through agents or representatives to get a better deal at another club or get something by other means.

”I would never speak about another player until they were signed and in the door. You could probably fire a whole list of names at me and you would get the same response.”

With first-team football never guaranteed at City, Milner could look elsewhere this summer in order to see out his peak years at another club, with Liverpool the likely destination following Rodgers’ comments.
