Liverpool Could Allow Ben Doak to Leave Anfield This Summer

Liverpool’s promising young talent, Ben Doak, might be set for a temporary exit from Anfield this summer.

The 18-year-old Scottish winger, eager for regular game-time after an injury-plagued 2023/24 season, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including newly promoted Leicester and Southampton.

According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Doak recognizes that his opportunities could be limited at Liverpool, where he would primarily serve as Mo Salah’s understudy.

Both Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Richard Hughes are aware of Doak’s aspirations and plan to discuss his options once the team returns from their current U.S. tour.

Doak’s desire for consistent minutes is understandable. Scotland under-21 boss Scot Gemmill has praised the youngster as an “exceptional” prospect.

Liverpool fans have also seen flashes of his potential, but breaking into the starting lineup ahead of Salah remains a daunting challenge.

A loan move could offer the perfect solution. Of the clubs mentioned, Southampton appears to be the more favorable destination.

Under manager Russell Martin, known for his free-flowing football, Doak could flourish. In contrast, competition for a wide attacking spot at Leicester might be too intense, limiting his playing time.

Liverpool must ensure that any loan move guarantees Doak regular minutes. The club can’t afford to repeat the mistake made with Fabio Carvalho, who barely featured during his loan stint at RB Leipzig last season.

As the pre-season progresses, a clearer picture of Doak’s prospects at Anfield will emerge. A loan move might be the best path for his development, allowing him to gain the valuable experience he needs.
