Ex-midfielder has revealed all in new book
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has admitted he fears the club will lose star-asset Philippe Coutinho sooner rather than later.
The club have struggled to keep hold of their best players, with the likes of Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling all leaving in recent times for Chelsea, FC Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.
The Reds also lost Gerrard over the summer as he left on a free transfer and joined MLS side LA Galaxy, and in his new book, he’s admitted that the club may face a tough job of keeping Coutinho satisfied at Anfield.
The Brazilian has developed into a brilliant player since arriving from Inter Milan back in 2013, but Gerrard believes the club will struggle to fend off giants like Barca and Real Madrid if they come calling.
Gerrard’s Book
Gerrard wrote: “He has just signed a new deal and he and his wife – who are a lovely couple – seem settled here.
“But I also know that the Spanish giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid, will come looking for Philippe in a few more seasons, just like they did with Luis.
“And that’s when it will get tricky for Liverpool because the lure to go to one or two of those clubs is so strong for any South American or Spanish player.”
