Brazilian team-mate thinks star could quit Anfield with no Champions League football

Paris Saint-Germain star David Luiz believes Liverpool could lose Philippe Coutinho if they don’t qualify for the Champions League.

The two play together for Brazil and the centre-back has warned the Premier League outfit that without the Champions League nights, they may not have Coutinho around for much longer.

The 23-year-old joined Anfield back in 2013 after agreeing to leave Serie A side Inter Milan for just ÂŁ8.5million, and he’s quickly become the club’s most promising player and was on the shortlist for PFA Player of the Year last season.

However, he’s only had one Champions League campaign with the club since arriving, and Luiz believes if Liverpool miss out again this year, they could lose the Brazilian playmaker over the summer.

Luiz Warning

Luiz said: “Coutinho made the choice to stay at Liverpool without Champions League football this season. I don’t think he will make that choice again.

“The best need to be playing with the best. Coutinho is the best midfield player in England right now. That is great for him, but when you play at that level the big clubs will notice you.

“If Liverpool don’t qualify this season for the Champions League, I am sure he will be the most in demand player in Europe next summer.”
