Reds want to hijack Chelsea bid

Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, despite reports suggesting a move to Chelsea is all-but complete.

The Reds are in desperate need for more firepower up front, despite adding Danny Ings to their squad from Burnley on a free transfer.

Liverpool’s Needs

Brendan Rodgers‘ side were lackluster in front of goal last season, with Luis Suarez leaving to join FC Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge missing the majority of the season through injury.

The likes of Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert all failed to make a name for themselves at Anfield and all three could be shipped out over the Summer with the club preparing a mass overhaul of talent.

James Milner and Ings are already two to come in, whilst Glen Johnson has left after his contract expired.

Rodgers knows that more strikers are needed, despite Divock Origi returning from a season-long loan at Lille, and his attentions have turned to Falcao.

Back to the Premier League?

The Colombian is set to have another loan spell away from Ligue 1, with the Premier League his favoured destination despite his poor showing last year.

Falcao spent the season at Manchester United, scoring just four goals and failing to show the best of his ability.

Despite his poor campaign, that hasn’t put off Chelsea or Liverpool as they both look set to launch loan bids for the upcoming season.

According to reports, Rodgers is confident he can get a deal done over Jose Mourinho because he can promise the 29-year-old more regular first-team football.

It’s believed that if Falcao does go to Stamford Bridge, he will be second-fiddle to Diego Costa, despite Mourinho confirming he wants to help the out-of-form striker.

Whoever does sign the Colombian will have to fork out money though as his wage demands are still well over ÂŁ150k-a-week.
