Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking at a potential bid for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as he searches for backup to first choice Simon Mignolet.
Queens Park Rangers were rumoured to have had McCarthy in for a medical, however Liverpool will hope that the prosepct of playing back-up in the Champions League will sway the decision their way.
A price tag of ÂŁ4 million has been mouted, which would represent good value for money as McCarthy is still only 24 years old and would qualify as a homegrown player.
The goalkeeper has played 70 matches for Reading since making his debut in 2007, having come through the youth system with the Royals. He also has 3 caps for the England U’21s.
With the transfer window closing on Monday, Rodgers will have to move quickly for his man to get a deal in place by the 11pm deadline.
