Liverpool eye up Huntelaar as Suarez replacement

Reports in Holland suggest Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is going to be the replacement of Luis Suarez, who’s move to Barcelona is looking increasingly likely.

Arsenal are known to be long term admirers of Huntelaar and there has been some suggestion that the Gunners will make a move this summer to sign the striker.

Liverpool meanwhile had already shown interest in the Bundesliga man when Andy Carrol departed for West Ham but the player opted to stick with Schalke.

However the Dutch international’s contract with the german side is in its final year and he is yet to agree a new deal with the club.

While Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt is keen to keep all his players this summer, he is aware that he could lose the 30 year old for nothing in 12 months time.

This could mean a bidding war between Arsenal and Liverpool before he decides to put pen to paper in a new contract with Schalke.

Should Huntelaar complete his move to Anfield, it would be a transfer reversal for him as Suarez was brought in to Ajax to replace him back in 2009 when he left for Real Madrid.
