New system implemented prior to West Ham defeat

Liverpool fans who take their flags and banners to home matches will now have to sign a register in order to continuing doing so at Anfield.

The new measure introduced means that fans that are part of the Spion Kop, a group who co-ordinate where the flags and banners are situated on a match-day, need to sign the register which came into effect for their match against West Ham United last weekend.

However, fans of the club have not taken to this decision lightly, and feel it’s invading of the club to go to such a measure, with fans alerted just 48 hours prior to the 2-0 defeat against the Hammers.

Fans Not Happy

A beleaguered member offered his thoughts on the subject: ‘We had a meeting pre-season with the club, which went well, and ended in handshakes,’ a spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo.

‘We’re more than willing to do what’s reasonable. But 48 hours before the West Ham game we got an email saying the procedure was changing, with signing a register and accreditation.

”We understand the club has a job to do, but sensible solutions are needed, and we await more dialogue.

Club Statement

However Liverpool have denied that any such changes have been made, saying that they are currently talking to ‘the appropriate groups’.

They said: ‘No changes have currently been made to the bringing of flags into the stadium on matchdays.

‘We are in discussion with the appropriate groups.

‘The club remains committed to maintaining the unique atmosphere at Anfield which these flags and banner all contribute to.’
