Shot stopper has had broken hand

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has declared himself ‘good to go’ as he nears full fitness after suffering a broken hand.

The 23-year-old was signed from Mainz to take over from Simon Mignolet in the starting XI, but he broke his hand in Liverpool’s friendly 1-0 loss to Chelsea in August.

Karius has been forced to watch from the sidelines as Mignolet has started each of Liverpool’s opening three Premier League matches of the campaign, but he is now just weeks away from full fitness after having surgery to remove the wire support from his wrist last Wednesday.

Karius will return to full training this week is now focusing on sampling his first taste of English football, say the Liverpool Echo.

And asked if that would require any adaptation period, the German said: “I don’t think so because I have always tried to see where I can help the teams I’ve played at before and where I can make the play quicker when it’s needed or when to calm it down.

“Probably the reason I am here is because the manager thinks I’ll fit into the style of play. Of course, he tells me his ideas and I don’t think we’re far off, so I think I’m good!

“I’ve also seen a lot of the Premier League before – it’s a high level, but I think it’s the same in Germany so I don’t think I am going to be surprised about anything.

“I am well prepared and looking forward to it, so there’s nothing I am scared of or unsure of. I think I am good to go.”

Karius is in competition with current first-choice Simon Mignolet for a place between the sticks, with veteran Alex Manninger a further option.
