Jurgen Klopp wants to sign FC Barcelona goalkeeper ahead of Manchester United

Liverpool are interested in signing FC Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen, according to reports in Spain.

The German manager has just arrived at Anfield after replacing the sacked Brendan Rodgers, and with the first transfer window of his tenure opening in just under two months, he’s already preparing.

Officials at the club have confirmed that they will back Klopp financially for the January window, allowing him to stamp his own mark on Liverpool and bring in some of his own players.

Klopp is a huge admirer for ter Stegen and tried to buy him for Borussia Dortmund before the 23-year-old’s move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Barcelona in 2014.

First-Team Football Not Guaranteed

However, since arriving at the Nou Camp, the ‘keeper has faced serious competition for the number-one jersey from Claudio Bravo, who is seemingly the preferred option for league matches, with ter Stegen playing in cup games.

With first-team football not guaranteed, the ‘keeper could be searching for a move away, and with Klopp reportedly after a new goalkeeper to compete with Simon Mignolet, ter Stegen could be his man.

If Liverpool were to step up their interest, they would have to fork out the money to sign him, with his release clause standing at a whopping £56.7million.

The Reds will also face competition from their Premier League rivals, Manchester United, who have shown interest in the past.
