The Reds are eager to bring the defender back to England
Liverpool have launched a bid to sign Thomas Vermaelen.
According to reports in Spain, the Reds are ready to try and sign the centre-back this summer, as they look to improve their defensive options.
They’ve had a number of injury problems in defence and with Sakho now facing a lengthy ban, they are on the lookout to sign another defender. Jurgen Klopp has identified the Barcelona star as one of his main defensive targets and is now ready to make a bid.
Although he has struggled in Spain with the Catalan giants and suffered with injury himself, the Reds believe he could have a positive impact on their defence and he is certainly proven in the Premier League after his time at Arsenal.
Barca could accept half the amount that they paid for him
At Arsenal he was superb and Jurgen Klopp clearly believes he can help the Belgium international recapture that form at Anfield.
In addition, Barca are willing to sell him if the right offer is made and he could cost just £7.5m, which is half of what they paid to sign him from the Gunners back in 2014.
It’s money that the Reds do have and with Klopp set to spend this summer, Vermaelen could very well be one of the names arriving at Anfield ahead of next season.
