Yesteryear Liverpool star Steve Nicol has said that he is far from impressed with Mohamed Salah’s attitude regarding the controversial penalty incident.

The Egyptian star forward was involved in a diving incident in the Newcastle match that led to a penalty.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has said that he is not at all impressed with the attitude shown by star forward Mohamed Salah regarding the penalty incident in their match against Newcastle United. The player seemed to have dived in the box after minimal contact from the back by Paul Dummett, which led to the referee giving a penalty, which the Egyptian star converted himself from the spot. The Reds won the match by 4-0 and strengthened their spot at the top of the table.

The yesteryear Liverpool star said, “The worrying thing is we’re getting to a position now where it seems like the majority [of people] these days are accepting that that sort of contact is a foul. I mean, really?!”

He added, “They say [it’s a contact sport], but the way it’s being refereed – you wouldn’t think so.”

ESPN pundit Craig Burley has also criticised Salah for the incident and said, “It’s not necessarily a pushing action or a pulling action, which it has to really be for it to be an offence. A hand on a player is not an offence in itself but a pushing action is or a pulling action is.”

He added, “A lot of people out there want this to be the norm. I’ve got some sympathy for the refs, it’s becoming tougher and tougher across the whole spectrum!”
