Liverpool striker crisis!
With news that Raheem Sterling looks certain to leave Anfield in the summer, and Daniel Sturridge possibly out of action until October, Liverpool fans must be wondering who will be playing up front for their beloved Reds come the start of the new campaign.
Balotelli, Lambert and Borini also look set to leave the club, and so as it stands Divock Origi, returning from loan for the new season, may well become a household name in the UK by Christmas. Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool boss, needs to find replacements. Given his record at Anfield in the transfer market, they need to find good ones too. There is no room for error. For his sake and the clubs.
Croatian saviour?
So, step up Mario Mandzukic. Yes you heard it……Mario. Croatian born, and a tried and tested goal scorer at international level, the 29-year-old striker is currently plying his trade at Atletico Madrid, having moved from Bayern in 2014. So, having had a reasonable opening season for the Spanish giants, why would he want to leave? Well, the good news for Liverpool is that Atletico are lining up Christian Benteke of Aston Villa to replace him, according to reports.
Anfield chant already written!
Could Liverpool deal with another Mario? Well, the song doesn’t need to be written, so there’s something. Our message to all Liverpool fans: Keep your diary free in August; there’s no telling who Brendan may have to call on to start up front.
