Ray Houghton tells his understanding of Reds’ transfer plans
Former Liverpool midfielder Ray Houghton has shed light on Liverpool’s transfer plans this summer – and has said that Christian Benteke is their no.1 priority
The Belgian has recently been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, however media is suggesting that negotiations have stalled. It is thought The Reds aren’t willing to meet the £32.5million release clause in the striker’s contract, but are still interested in a deal.

Ex Reds midfielder Ray Houghton told Talksport he has heard reports that Liverpool are not deterred by his large fee and will make it their priority to bring him to the club.
He said: “I heard that Benteke was one of their major priorities in the summer, that he was the one that they were looking for.
“Benteke is a huge player. I think if he went to Liverpool he would fit into the style. He’s something they haven’t got, he’s big, he’s physical.
“He can upset defenders, he’s got genuine pace and when you get him in the right frame of mind he can score goals.”
