Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed he is a defence-minded coach despite the fact the the Reds have conceded 23 goals in 19 games.

Liverpool have had a rather shaky defence ever since Klopp took over at Anfield. They have conceded 23 goals in 19 games this season and it’s because of their poor defensive record that they’re struggling to stay in the title race or even the top four.

But Liverpool manager Klopp, insists he’s a defence-minded coach, after getting angry about a reporter suggesting his natural instinct is to tell his players to attack.

“No, that’s not true. I want to defend, first of all, because that is the basis for everything.

“We have to stay consistent and keep on performing like we did (against Arsenal). It’s not too easy to play this kind of football.

“We have a defending approach. We played 4-5-1 and they all have responsibility to defend.

“The best thing is to defend with ten offensive players because, when you have the ball, it’s more likely you will score.”

Liverpool host Swansea next in what should be an interesting game with Swansea’s coach Paul Clement having recently been sacked.
