Inter Milan midfielder set to sign for Real Madrid
Liverpool have missed out on signing Inter Milan star Matteo Kovacic, as the Croat closes in on a move to Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old has been a long-term target of Brendan Rodgers, as the Northern Irishman identified him as the perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard, who left to join LA Galaxy in the summer.
Rodgers was desperate to land Kovacic, but was told by Inter that he was not for sale no matter what fee was offered.

However, it’s now been revealed that the Croatian international will be on his way to the Bernabeu after Inter agreed to sell him for £25million to the La Liga giants.
Madrid will be paying £23m up-front, with it potentially rising to £25m with bonuses and add-ons.
It’s believed the deal will be formally announced later this week after the midfielder was left out of Inter’s friendly against AEK Athens.
