Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer claims the Reds need more experienced players at Anfield, and wants Marco Reus through the door whatever the cost.
The German midfielder has been linked for over 18 months now with a move to the Premier League and Real Madrid, however Reus has always been loyal to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
This loyalty was extended this week after the winger signed a new deal tying him to the club until at least the summer of 2019.
However, ex-Red McAteer believes that Reus would be the perfect signing to combat the loss of the inspirational figure of club captain Steven Gerrard, who leaves Anfield at the end of the season for LA Galaxy.
He said: ”I would love to see a Marco Reus. I know he has just signed a new contract but that would probably just push the pounds up when it comes to entering the market for him.
”They need players like him, more the finished article, more the experienced player that can help.
”It was vitally important for us when I was at Liverpool. We were such a young team but had Barnesy, we had Rushy, and you do look for them when it is not going right in the dressing room. Liverpool just need that.”
