The left-back will be allowed to return to parent club Valencia with the Reds deciding not to take up their option to sign him, according to Valencia-based online newspaper Plaza Deportiva.

Cissokho, aged 26, has made 13 league appearances this season and played four times in cups. He has not exactly set the world alight in those games and has often appeared to be the weak link in the Reds’ infamously shaky defence.

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly decided that he will not be part of his squad going into next season.

The one-cap France international is unlikely to have a long-term future at Valencia. The cash-strapped La Liga side are keen to shift his considerable salary off their wage bill.

That means the former Porto and Lyon man will probably be on the lookout for another club this summer.
