Liverpool preparing £38m Benzema deal

Liverpool are putting the finishing touches to a £38m deal to try and tempt Real Madrdi forward Karim Benzema to the Premier League.

It was thought that the Reds would wait until the summer before making a move for Benzema, 27.

But manager Brendan Rodgers has seen his side struggle for goals in the league this term, with Daniel Sturridge held back by injuries and the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Even bringing Mario Balotelli to Anfield has not worked out, with the club suffering in front of goal.

So they may rekindle their interest in Benzema, who they tried to sign last summer.

A move never materialised however, and the Frenchman signed a new five-year deal at the Bernabeu in October.

He has 14 goals this term, and is also being linked with Manchester United and Arsenal.

Benzema has 80 goals in 175 league games for the Spanish giants since signing from Lyon in 2009.
