Brendan Rodgers is prepared to let his contract run down

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he isn’t afraid to let Raheem Sterling’s contract run down, but insists that he won’t sell him this Summer.

The England international has just two years left on his current deal at Anfield and after speaking in an interview with BBC, he confirmed that he won’t be signing anything until the end of the current campaign.

Competing for Trophies

Sterling reiterated that it isn’t about the money but it’s about being at the right club who can compete for trophies on a regular basis, and after Liverpool got knocked out of the FA Cup and are likely to miss out on Champions League football, it looks like the winger could be on the move.

The Reds value the winger at around £50million, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid all reportedly interested, but the trio of clubs could lure him away for free in two years time.

Rodgers Won’t Sell

In an interview during the week, Rodgers confirmed that he won’t sell Sterling this Summer and isn’t concerned about his contract situation, despite there only being 12 months left on his deal.

He said: ‘We’ve made our position clear from the beginning and the owners are very much supportive of that.

‘Raheem won’t be going anywhere this summer, even if there’s not a deal agreed.’

Contract Expiry

Liverpool have until 2017 to either get Sterling to commit or risk losing him on a free.
