Liverpool are preparing a £8 million bid for Schalke youngster Max Meyer. Liverpool scouts have been keeping a close-eye on him over the past few months and according to reports in Germany, the deal looks likely to happen. It is expected that Brendan Rodgers will make a move for the 18-year-old before the weekend and the club hope to finalise the deal as soon as possible. Although Schalke are a slightly hesitant to sell the player, they will get a percentage of any sell-on fee plus lucrative bonus payments if Meyer helps Liverpool win trophies.
It looked likely that the German was heading to Chelsea last summer, but Meyer rejected a move to Stamford Bridge in favour of Schalke as he feared he would lack first-team football.
Liverpool will have to promise the German first-team football in order to tie up the deal, but Brendan Rodgers is confident that Meyer can deliver.
Meyer scored 7 goals in 41 appearances for Schalke last season and also contributed with plenty of assists.
