Liverpool are poised to make a £12million bid for Mohamed Salah after manager Brendan Rodgers made a personal check on the Basle winger.

Liverpool have been trailing the Egyptian for over six months and Rodgers flew to Germany on Wednesday to watch the the 21-year-old in action for himself against Schalke in the Champions League.

Salah had a reasonable game but his side lost 2-0 after being reduced to ten men barely 30 minutes into the game and so went out of the competition.

Basle are now ready to sell their prized asset and want around £15m for a player who has been dubbed ‘the Egyptian Messi’ following his goals return of 17 in 26 internationals.

Tottenham have also monitored Salah’s progress, notably watching him score against Chelsea in the Champions League home and away.

He also scored against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-finals last season, and against Spurs in the last eight.

Other European sides are also keen with Galatasaray and Monaco among them.

However, Liverpool is an appealing option for Salah and, if Rodgers gives the go-ahead for an official bid, they are likely to get their man.
