Liverpool are thought to be lining up a January move for Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The former Basel man is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach, and is a player that new boss Jurgen Klopp had been watching closely during his time at Dortmund.

The Reds would face competition for Xhaka’s signature from Premier League rivals Arsenal, however the Reds are confident that they can land their man for a fee in the region of ÂŁ20 million.

With Jordan Henderson still out injured, and the trio of James Milner, Emre Can and Lucas having to play the majority of games both in the league and in Europe, Klopp is hoping to add some strength in depth to his midfield.

The 23 year-old already has plenty of experience for a player of his age, having amassed 39 caps for his home nation since his debut in 2011, and has played 91 games for Monchengladbach since the move from Basel in 2012, netting 6 goals during that period.
