Midfielder to snub Manchester City contract

Liverpool are reportedly set to sign James Milner over the Summer after the versatile star has decided to reject a contract extension from Manchester City.

The England international has played a big part in Manuel Pellegrini‘s team this season, but he has told the club that he is still concerned about the  lack of game-time he will receive ahead of next season.

Free Agent

Milner will be a free agent this Summer once his contract expires in June, and after talks with the City board, it’s reported that he has told them he has no plans on extending his contract.

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Milner, as have Arsenal, but with competition for places high at the Emirates Stadium, it looks like Anfield is the midfielder’s preferred destination.

Despite being happy with the offer from City, he has refused to sign in due to the worry of game-time next season.

Gerrard Replacement

As for Liverpool’s interest, Brendan Rodgers is keen on making the Englishman a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard, who is set to leave the club at the end of the current season.

Gerrard is set for an MLS move this Summer with LA Galaxy signing him, and Rodgers is desperate to find an immediate replacement as soon as possible.

Contract on Offer

According to reports, Rodgers and Liverpool are prepared to offer Milner a contract worth ÂŁ100k-a-week, and will promise him regular game-time, unlike what’s on offer at the Etihad Stadium.

The 29-year-old cannot make a move as of yet and must wait until the season is over, but it’s believed he’s already decided to move to Liverpool if the contract offer is made formal.
