Reds offering midfielder £130k-a-week contract

Liverpool are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Manchester City midfielder James Milner, and will offer him a contract worth around £130k-a-week.

The England international is set to leave the Etihad Stadium after spending five years there since his move from Aston Villa, but after making 143 Premier League appearances for The Citizens, he is now ready to leave.

Milner’s Game-Time Concern

Milner‘s contract expires in June and has told the club that he doesn’t want to sign a new deal and wants to leave on a free due to limited game time under Manuel Pellegrini.

Despite being more involved this season, Milner is still concerned about his lack of first-team football and his chances for regular game-time next season, so he is ready to move on and face a new challenge.

Arsenal Pull Out

Arsenal were reportedly keen on signing the 29-year-old, but their interest cooled down allowing Liverpool to swoop in for the versatile star.

According to reports, Liverpool are prepared to offer Milner a contract worth £130k-a-week, making him one of the club’s highest earners, and Brendan Rodgers sees him as a suitable replacement for Steven Gerrard.

The Liverpool legend is set to join MLS side LA Galaxy in the Summer and Rodgers is desperate to find a replacement and he believes Milner could fill the boots left by the Anfield legend.

Another bonus for The Reds is Milner’s versatility. The Englishman can play anywhere across the midfield as well as right-back, meaning he can cover if need be.

City Last Ditch Attempt

It’s reported that Milner to Liverpool is all-but done, but City could make a last-ditch contract offer to try and keep the England star.

Pellegrini and the board are worried about the lack of English players at the Etihad and with the new strict Premier League rules about homegrown players, they won’t want to lose Milner.

Lack of English Players

Currently City have four English players at their squad, but three of them (Milner, Frank Lampard and Richard Wright) are all leaving this Summer.
