Liverpool set to sign Manchester City defender

Liverpool have been given the all-clear by Manchester City in their pursuit to sign right-back Micah Richards after the Englishman was told by manager Manuel Pellegrini he can leave the club in the Summer.

The Reds have been interested in Richards since the Summer and a move was potentially on the cards then, but nothing formal came from the interest, and after rejecting a new deal at the Etihad, it now looks like the club are prepared to lose one of their academy graduates.

Richards was offered a new deal, but would have had to take a huge pay-cut due to his injury worries, but the full-back rejected the deal and told Pellegrini that he is ready to go elsewhere and it looks like Liverpool is his favoured destination.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to strengthen his side’s back-four, as he has seen them throw away costly points this season, and with Richards being able to play anywhere across the back-line, he is keen to wrap up the deal as soon as possible.
