Ian Ayre remains in Chile to hold talks with Colombian

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has stayed out in Chile in order to hold talks with Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca ahead of a potential switch to Anfield.

Ayre has been out in South America holding talks with Brazilian Roberto Firmino, and despite that deal being done and finalised subject to a medical, the chief exec of Liverpool has stayed out in Chile.

Chief Exec in Talks

It’s believed he is staying out there in order to hold talks with Bacca, who is out there with his national side Colombia.

Liverpool have shown interest in the Sevilla striker and have been informed about the 28-year-old’s release clause in his contract, which is around ÂŁ22million.

According to reports, Ayre will meet with Bacca and his representatives in order to hold talks about a potential transfer, with The Reds ready to meet his release clause so that they can snap up the deal quickly.

Liverpool have already been busy, signing five players, with a sixth close in Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton, and Bacca could become the club’s seven addition this summer.

Roma Interest

However, Liverpool face serious competition from Italian side AS Roma, with the club’s sporting director Walter Sabatini confirming their interest in the star-striker.

“We want Bacca,” Sabatini said. “But I cannot say anything more.”

Bacca’s Agent Reveals Rome Desire

To alarm Liverpool more, Bacca’s agent has admitted that a move to Italy does interest the Colombian.

“Carlos is deeply religious and, in Rome, there is the pope – and apart from that we are talking about one of the best clubs [Roma],” Sergio Barila said.

“If Bacca were to leave Sevilla, it will not be for the money but a chance to play in the Champions League.”

Backup Options

If Liverpool can’t get Bacca, they will turn their attentions to Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke or Juventus’ Fernando Llorente.
