Jimmy Bullard believes Reds should have got Neymar as part of Luis Suarez deal

Former Hull City and Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard believes that Liverpool should have signed Brazilian Neymar after they sold Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona in 2014.

Suarez left the Reds for a cool ÂŁ75 million the summer before last, and now plays alongside Neymar for Barcelona after he joined over the same period.

The Uruguayan left a huge hole in the Anfield striking department and the club have yet to sufficiently replace the 69 goals from just over 100 appearances in a Liverpool shirt.

Boss Brendan Rodgers re-invested the money from the sale back into the squad, signing the likes of Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke in big money moves.

Bullard Discusses Business

However, Bullard feels that they haven’t replaced Suarez with a like-for-like talent and that man should have been his now team-mate Neymar.

“With the likes of Suarez going and not getting world quality, for me as a fan I want to see a world-class striker join.

“I wanted to see a Neymar or someone to replace Suarez. They took a risk with signing the likes of Danny Ings from Burnley.”

“Is Benteke world class? On the other scale, that’s why I back Rodgers. He goes off what he sees and doesn’t just go off names.

“He can do a job and that’s why I like him and back him for that.”
