Virgil van Dijk says that Liverpool have no reason to panic after Man City defeat

Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season as Manchester City reinvigorated the title race with a 2-1 victory over the Reds at home on Thursday night. Jurgen Klopp’s men had the chance to go 10 points clear at the top but a first defeat of the season saw their advantage reduced to just four points.

Leroy Sane scored the winner with 18 minutes remaining after Sergio Aguero’s thumping near-post finish past Alisson in the first half was cancelled out by Roberto Firmino’s strike in the second half.

However, Virgil van Dijk believes that there are still plenty of games left in the season and Liverpool should not panic after the defeat.

“We knew it was going to be a very tough season and there will be ups and downs and Thursday was obviously a down,” said the Netherlands international.

“You just have to keep going and bounce back and that is something we are definitely going to do.

“It was an intense game for both teams. They won and we are very disappointed, but we will focus on recovering and making sure we are ready for the next game.

“We are disappointed we lost but there is no reason for panic. For us it was just another important Premier League game. Unfortunately, we lost and couldn’t get a result.

“Fair play to City and congratulations to them but we just have to keep going.”
