Reds want world-record fee for Brazilian

Liverpool have told Barcelona that they will only sell Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho for a world-record £133million this summer.

Coutinho has been monitored by the Spanish giants for the last season, and they have made their intentions to sign him no secret.

It was reported 2 days ago that they were becoming ‘increasingly confident’ of being able to sign the no.10. It was also reported by many that they had agreed a personal deal with him.

Liverpool have always insisted that they have no desire or need to sell, with manager Jurgen Klopp reiterating this in recent pre-season press conferences.

However, fresh reports today from the Daily Mirror are claiming that Liverpool have slapped a £133million price tag on Coutinho’s head, in an attempt to scare the Catalans away from doing business. Barca have already had a £72million bid turned down last week. From Liverpool’s perspective, they will have to almost double that to be in with a chance of signing their player.

Despite missing a period of last season out with injury, Coutinho had a magnificent campaign. He scored 13 goals that were crucial in the Red’s hunt for a top 4 finish.

Liverpool will be hoping that they can at least keep hold of Coutinho until they begin their Champions League campaign. If he plays in their qualifying round, he will be unable to play for Barcelona in that competition for the rest of the season should he move. If the Reds can make it to that point and Coutinho is still a Liverpool player, they will consider themselves safe.
