Reds want to beat Premier League rivals Chelsea

Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in FC Porto midfielder Ruben Neves in order to ensure they beat rivals Chelsea to the signing.

Neves broke a Champions League record mid-week when he became the youngest ever captain in the competition, aged just 18-years-old.

The Portuguese side won the game 2-0 against Maccabi Tel-Aviv, and according to reports, Liverpool had a team of scouts out there watching the game in order to assess the new record breaker.

English Interest

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with making formal moves for the teenager, but since Jurgen Klopp has taken over at Anfield, it seems the Reds are eager to get the deal done as soon as possible in order to beat their Premier League rivals.

Neves has a long-term contract at Porto, with his current deal set to expire in 2019, but the club’s officials are wary that they could lose their starlet in January if mega-money bids come in.
