Liverpool will make an improved offer to sign the Southampton defender

The Reds are prepared to make a second bid for Nathaniel Clyne, according to the Daily Mirror.

The St. Marys club have already rejected a ÂŁ10million move from the Merseyside club last month but Brendan Rodgers intends to go back in for the England international.

Ronald Koeman was hopeful the 24-year-old would have signed a new contract by now – Southampton could sanction a move for Clyne if the price is right, according to the Mirror.

Johnson out Clyne in

Glen Johnson, who is linked with a move to Besiktas, was released this month and Rodgers thinks the Southampton man would be the perfect replacement.

Rodgers know he is not the only one interested in the Englishman with arch-rivals Manchester United also thought to be preparing to swoop for Clyne.

United manager Louis Van Gaal has identified Clyne as one of a number of targets during his reported ÂŁ150million spending spree this summer.

Memphis Depay, a man who snubbed Liverpool for United, officially finalized his ÂŁ31million move from PSV Eindhoven last week.

If Clyne joins the Reds he would be the fourth player to have moved north – Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren all moved to Liverpool last summer.
