Release clause will be activated

Liverpool have launched a £14.2m bid for Villarreal hotshot Luciano Vietto, triggering the release clause in his contract.

The striker has 28 goals for the Spanish side this season, and is also wanted by Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

Vietto confirmed his buyout clause in a recent interview with Spanish radio, and Liverpool have met that clause, as confirmed by Spanish newspaper AS.

Vietto Eyes Spain Stay

It is believed that Vietto would prefer to stay in La Liga with Atletico, but a move to Anfield may be hard to turn down, even though the Reds can not offer Champions League football next season.

However, signing Vietto would bring some much-needed dynamism to Brendan Rodgers‘ side, who have struggled for goals up front after selling Luis Suarez last summer.

Argentine Vietto, 21, was La Liga Player of the Month in December 2014.
