The 21-year old is hoping to get more first-team action at Southampton for the time being

Sam McQueen is unfazed by the current interest in him and has claimed he is ready to battle for a starting spot at Southampton.

The left-back has been brought in to help the Saints in defence after they suffered with injuries to Ryan Bertrand and Matt Targett.

When given the chance to impress he has but he still isn’t seen as a regular first-team player by the club and Bertrand and Targett remain above him in the pecking order.

His performances though caught the eye of Liverpool, who are in need of another left-back. They currently have James Milner filling that role and although he has done a good job, their back-up is Alberto Moreno, who is known to be rather error-prone.

Fight for a starting spot

Leicester City have also registered an interest, as they bid to bolster their backline to help climb the Premier League table.

Both sides could launch bids to sign him in January and they may even be able to land him on loan, with Southampton seemingly not intending on using him regularly just yet.

However, the player himself is not fazed by this interest and has insisted he will continue to fight for a place in the Southampton side and try to impress Claude Puel when given the chance.

Therefore, he may decide to stay on at Southampton in the hopes of taking a first-team spot from the two left-backs who sit above him in the pecking order.
