Reds confident of securing sixth summer signing

Liverpool are expected to announce the signing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton sometime next week, according to reports this morning.

The Reds have made two approaches for the England right-back, with their initial ÂŁ10million bid rejected and their latter improved bid of ÂŁ12.5m reportedly accepted.

Clyne Ready to Sign

Clyne has apparently cut short his summer vacation in America in order to fly home and complete his switch to Anfield, meaning the deal could be close to being finalised.

With the fee between Liverpool and Southampton agreed, all that’s left is for personal terms to be agreed between the player and Liverpool, then the medical to take place in Merseyside.

Clyne has been strongly linked with a move away from St Marys this summer, but it was expected that Manchester United would be his move.

However, Louis Van Gaal dropped his interest in the 23-year-old and is reportedly looking elsewhere, with Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid strongly linked.

Sixth Signing for Liverpool?

If Brendan Rodgers can get the Clyne deal finalised and over the line, that would be Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer.

James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino have already joined the club in the past few weeks, and a striker is set to follow too, with Christian Benteke and Carlos Bacca the targets.

However, Liverpool are confident that Clyne will be their sixth recruit with an announcement planned for next week.

Saints Reunion

It’s reported the defender will sign a five-year deal at Anfield and will become the fourth player to swap Southampton for Liverpool in the last year, following Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.
