Right-back set to be sent back to Atletico Madrid

Liverpool are ready to terminate Javier Manquillo’s two-year loan deal after the arrival of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

The Reds announced the arrival earlier this week, making the right-back their sixth summer signing already, but it looks like attentions will be turned to departures now.

Summer plans at Anfield

Brendan Rodgers is overhauling his squad after a disappointing campaign, and with six new faces already in, he’s now set to sell up to seven.

As reported yesterday, Rodgers is desperate to even up the books after his new signings, and it’s likely that around seven first-team players will be sold over the summer, with the majority of them seen as fringe players.

However, one player that may be given the boot is right-back Manquillo, who is currently halfway through a two-year loan spell from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Manquillo Liverpool Struggles

The 21-year-old arrived at Anfield last summer on a two-year loan deal, but failed to impress Rodgers and failed to make a single Premier League appearance in 2015, this despite the injury lay-off to Jon Flanagan.

Glen Johnson was the preferred option at full-back, and despite the veteran leaving on a free transfer after his contract expired, Rodgers is still ready to terminate Manquillo’s deal after Clyne arrived in a ÂŁ12.5million deal.

Overall Manquillo made just 19 appearances last season, but with Clyne arriving, Andre Wisdom returning from a season-long loan and also the arrival of youth prospect Joe Gomez, the Spaniard’s game-time is expected to be limited for yet another season.

Liverpool may terminate his deal and send him back to Spain a year earlier than expected.
