Liverpool to HALF Johnson’s wages

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has been told by the club that his wages must be slashed in half if he is to be offered a new contract. The right-back’s current contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season and he has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

This news comes from the latest reports in The Mirror, and it is looking increasingly likely that Johnson will depart the Merseyside club come the end of the season, who are clearly far from desperate to keep hold of his services.

Johnson is believed to have been offered a two-year deal by Brendan Rodgers’ side, but he has been told his current £120,000-a-week wages will be halved if he remains at the club. One option the former Chelsea and Portsmouth full back is considering is making a move abroad, following in the footsteps of fellow former Chelsea player Ashley Cole, now of AS Roma, where he is likely to secure a lucrative deal.

Johnson has only eight appearances for Liverpool this season.
