Liverpool are looking at possible options to sell controversial striker Mario Balotelli in this summer’s transfer window.

The former Manchester City man has been hit and miss this season, as he has scored only four goals in 25 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Just one of those four have come in the Premier League for the Reds. It was also at Anfield, with Balotelli yet to score away from home for the club.

The Italian international has missed the last two games away at Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers, having suffered from a knee injury and illness respectively.

Balotelli’s illness is also causing him to miss tomorrow’s Monday Night Football match at home to Newcastle United.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said: “He is ill and there is not much more I can do about that.”

The Merseyside club paid ÂŁ16 million to lure the 24-year old from AC Milan at the beginning of the campaign.

A gamble that hasn’t worked in their favour, with Balotelli accumulating almost twice as many yellow cards than goals for Rodgers’ men.
