The right-back is a key target for the Reds, following Glen Johnson’s departure

Barcelona are prepared to allow Martin Montoya to leave the Nou Camp for £7m, according to the Star.

After signing Aleix Vidal and Dani Alves about to sign a new deal with the Catalan giants, there will be a lack of first-team opportunities for Montoya.

Vidal has moved from Sevilla for a fee of around £13m, rising to £16m and the 25-year-old has agreed a five-year deal.

However, the former Espanyol man will be ineligible to play until January 2016, as Barca are banned from signing players in 2015.

What next for Liverpool?

Should Brendan Rodgers land the Barcelona defender, it will be the third acquisition this week after landing Burnley’s Danny Ings and Adam Bodgan from Bolton.

Ings will join up with the Reds on 1 July subject to a medical after his contract with Burnley expired.

The Clarets will be liable to compensation for the England Under-21 international but the two clubs still need to agree a transfer fee.

In addition, Bodgan will move to Anfield on a free transfer on 1 July when his contract with Bolton Wanderers expires.

The Hungary international has lined up 120 times for the Lancashire club after signing for the Trotters back in 2007.

Christian Benteke has also been linked with a move to Liverpool but has recently stated his agent will deal with matters whilst he is on international duty.

The Aston Villa striker, who is believed to have a £32.5m buy-out clause in his contract, is attracting interest from several clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
