Scottish champions will need to break bank to sign Welshman

Liverpool have warned Celtic that they will need to break the bank to sign Joe Allen.

New Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is a huge admirer of Allen who he dubbed “The Welsh Xavi” and is believed to be keen on working with the 26-year-old for the third time.

Allen, who has a year left on his contract at Anfield would command a similar annual salary in the region of £2.3million.

The Glasgow giants could offer the lure of Champions League football but asked if Allen was set to join Rodgers at Celtic, Corcoran said: “This is the first I have heard of this. Joe has a year left on his contract at Liverpool and nobody has spoken to us about extending that.
“The club have not spoken to us about selling him either.

“I haven’t given any thought whatsoever to it with regards to Celtic or any club.

“If Liverpool were willing to sell – and that is a big ‘if’ because I’ve not had that conversation with the club – they would ask for too much money for him.

“I don’t know if Celtic at this moment would be willing to spend that sort of money and the wages would also be a massive issue.”
