FSG’s efforts to bring in Former Sporting Director amid Klopp’s departure
Liverpool continues to look for former sporting director Michael Edwards as they run against the clock to finish their new first-team regime. With Jurgen Klopp’s expected departure at the end of the season, the Reds are under pressure to find a replacement backroom personnel and a new manager.
Fenway Sports Group, managed by John W Henry, is going above and beyond to lure Edwards back to Anfield. According to The Guardian, Henry and FSG President Mike Gordon recently visited with Edwards in an attempt to convince him to rejoin the club.
Despite leaving Liverpool in 2022, Edwards has constantly turned down all previous approaches from the club. However, Henry and Gordon’s appeal drive might convince him to rethink, though Edwards is anticipated to want a more expansive job than just sporting director.
Edwards’ return is greatly desired by the club, as he has played an important role in Klopp’s success, particularly in player hiring and data analytics. His expertise in identifying talent and fitting players into Klopp’s system has been critical to Liverpool’s recent success.
If Edwards declines their offers once more, Liverpool will need to step up their efforts and speed up their search for alternatives. Among the probable choices, former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso stands out, but obtaining his services would necessitate a well-defined proposal.
