Defender heading to south-coast
Brad Smith is on the verge of leaving Liverpool for fellow Premier League side Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old left-back has agreed personal terms to a £6m move and is flying back to England from the Reds’ US tour to undergo a medical, according various UK media reports.
Smith is almost certain to get more game time under Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe – and the biggest beneficiary will be the Socceroos. The versatile defender’s pace and skill has already impressed in his first nine caps for Australia.
His arrival, along with fellow left-back Alex Gersbach and right-back Jason Geria, has prompted coach Ange Postecoglou to conclude the fullback positions are no longer the problem area they once were.
Liverpool reportedly have a buy-back option which they can trigger over the next two seasons.
