Newcastle United striker Loic Remy believes the club could have a big season ahead of them and is hoping that he can stay fit for the majority of it.

Despite rejecting the club last year in order to join Queens Park Rangers, Remy secured a loan-move to St James Park this summer, but due to injury, he had to wait until this weekend to make his debut, however it was worth the wait.

The Frenchman played a big part in Hatem Ben Arfa’s opener and put in a solid performance during the side’s 2-1 victory at Villa Park against Aston Villa and Remy thinks the team can have a big season this year.

“I did not do the pre-season so it was important to get fit quickly to help the team.

“I worked hard during the international break but I still need two or three games to be completely fit. I felt very good about my run, about everything, but I need more games.

“We are confident now. It was important to win, because if we can have a lot of games like this and win more and more games, it will be good for the future.

“We have a good game at home next week, and if we keep going we have the quality in the team to do very well this season.”
