Loic Remy refused number-9 shirt

Chelsea striker Loic Remy refused to wear the number-9 shirt at the club and opted to choose number-18 instead.

The Frenchman joined The Blues just before transfer deadline day from Queens Park Rangers, and despite the no.9 shirt being available, Remy went with 18 instead, in order to avoid wearing the ‘cursed’ number.

The number was left vacant after Fernando Torres completed his two-year loan deal to AC Milan, but the new striker refused to take the number.

Chelsea have failed to have a successful no.9 since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who left the club over a decade ago.

Since Hasselbaink; Torres, Franco Di Santo, Steve Sidwell, Khalid Boulahrouz, Hernan Crespo and Mateja Kezman, all put on the number 9 shirt, and all failed to shine at Stamford Bridge.
